Shamo chickens originated in Japan, derived from fighting chickens of a Malay type brought from Thailand.
Asil (or Aseel) chickens are a native breed of India and Pakistan, known for their strength and bravery.
Both breeds were historically used for cockfighting, though it is illegal in many places now.
Key physical characteristics include a nearly vertical body carriage, well-muscled thighs, and hard, closely-held feathers that often don’t provide complete coverage.
Shamo chickens are typically taller than Asil chickens, with Shamos reaching up to 30 inches in height.
